Growing up, we didn't have cell phones and TV was limited to rainy days indoors, but I relished the opportunity to draw instead. My childhood was spent outdoors, playing in the woods, climbing trees, jumping into leaf piles, & playing in the bog; though the latter was forbidden. I fell in love with nature's color palette, all the mossy greens and the vibrant leaves in fall.
Our Earth is beautiful and I'm still inspired by simple moments like the crashing of ocean waves, a gnarly tree covered in moss, or birds flying over a pond. The scent of rain in the air or a bird singing will take me back to my days outdoors as a child. There is something peaceful about taking a blank page and creating an image that I hope one day will be enjoyed by others and perhaps conjure up forgotten memories of their past.
As a self-taught Artist, I love finding new ways to express my vision, but I will always return to my first love of pen & ink. The freedom to create what I feel in the moment and to not feel constrained in a box of constancy allows me to breathe.
Art for me is like breathing.
mothers are there
through skinned
knees & tears
She watches us grow
throughout the years
Mothers are there through
the choices we make
She hugs us & smiles
for that's just her way
Mothers are there
for babes of our own
She opens her arms
and welcomes us home
mothers are there
for as long as can be
she hugs us & smiles
and says "You will see!"
